After close to one hundred years of service, our campus is in need of major renovations. The Home's vision includes a plan to build five cottages, a recreational complex, an enrichment center and a new administrative facility to replace existing facilities. This will enable our children and youth to enjoy a new home with all of the amenities that make childhood special and safe. Please take a look at the new cottages and buildings that will be built around the existing campus.
Our efforts to rebuild our campus kicked off in July 2000 with the leadership of our board of directors. In May 2001, we celebrated the grand opening of our first new cottage; it is the largest cottage on the Home's campus at 12,000 square feet and home to 30 adolescents in need of specialized treatment. It was our first new building built in over 30 years.
In November of 2002, the Rogers-Nord and Connally-Rogers Cottages were added to our campus thanks to donors, Bill Rogers and Evan Nord. These two cottages house one of our Moderate Management Programs and our Temporary De-Escalation Care Program. In addition, each new cottage will house 16 residents as opposed to 12. This will enable CCH to provide therapeutic care to additional children and adolescents in South Carolina.
In September 2005, the Home made significant progress in its second phase of our Rebuilding Campaign in opening the Walker Enrichment Center, thanks to the generosity of Jamie and Jenny Walker. This amazing new facility houses a new dining hall and two wings of classrooms in order to educate the residents who attend school on campus. We are also grateful to the following who have assisted in this regard: BB&T of South Carolina, an anonymous donor, Bank of America, the C.G. Fuller Foundation, Colonial Supplemental Insurance and the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation. All of these donors strongly believe in the power of an education and wanted to assist our children in this regard.
Yet, we still need your help. There are very special gift needs with naming opportunities. Your special gift can be the one that makes the difference in rebuilding countless children's lives.
For more information, please contact Elizabeth Caulk, Director of Development, at 782-1421, ext. 263 or via email at ecaulk@carolinachildrenshome.com or you can mail your gift to the home with a note stating CCH Rebuilding Fund. Any size gift is appreciated.
